Job Summary:
Huckleberry Knob Nursery is hiring a Nursery Manager to oversee the daily operations of our growing garden center and plant nursery. This role is ideal for someone with strong horticulture knowledge, leadership experience, and retail sales skills who can manage plant health, inventory, and staff while delivering an excellent customer experience.
This is a hands-on position working both outdoors in the nursery and inside with customers and team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily nursery operations, including plant care, layout, and maintenance.
- Oversee watering, fertilization, pruning, pest control, and plant health.
- Track inventory, receive shipments, and maintain accurate pricing and labeling.
- Train, supervise, and schedule nursery staff.
- Assist customers with plant selection, care advice, and project recommendations.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and visually appealing retail environment.
- Coordinate with landscape teams and support seasonal operations.
- Ensure safety procedures and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years experience in nursery, greenhouse, or horticulture management.
- Strong knowledge of plants, soils, and growing conditions (Virginia/Zone 7 preferred).
- Experience managing teams in a retail or outdoor operations environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Equipment experience (skid steer, loaders) is a plus.
